======================================================================== Support Note: 10 Product: The Operations Pack (TOP) Version: All versions Title: Enabling Email When Using Microsoft Outlook Created: 20 May 2003 Updated: 10 July 2008 Copyright 2008 Gresham Software Labs Pty Ltd ======================================================================== Problem Description ======================================================================== TOP uses the Collaboration Data Objects (CDO) to access the Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI). Formerly known as OLE Messaging and Active Messaging, CDO is an object model that gives applications more direct access to the MAPI. The MAPI is used by Microsoft Outlook to structure its data storage. CDO support is automatically installed when versions of Outlook before Outlook 2000 are installed. CDO support is not automatically installed when versions of Outlook from and after Outlook 2000 (such as Outlook 2002/XP) are installed. Two options for MAPI are available within TOP - pick the one appropriate for your version of Outlook. Outlook is used to send and receive email. The System Explorer, Pathway Manager and Spooler Manager can use email to distribute jobs, files and messages. If TOP uses the MAPI interface for email distribution and CDO support is not available when these programs attempt to use email the attempt fails. ======================================================================== Problem Solution ======================================================================== The solution is to install CDO support when you install Outlook.
