======================================================================== Support Note: 7 Product: The Operations Pack (TOP) Version: TOP Base Release 2.2 Title: Configuring TOP for use on nodes with multiple IP addresses Created: 8 August 2001 Updated: 29 August 2001 Copyright 2001 Gresham Software Labs Pty Ltd ======================================================================== Contents ======================================================================== Summary Details ======================================================================== Summary ======================================================================== These notes provide guidelines to help you configure TOP to work correctly in TCP/IP environments where there are multiple IP addresses associated with the Himalaya node. TOP must determine the IP address of Himalaya nodes to run FTP or terminal emulation sessions on them. If there are multiple Ethernet subnets, then TOP may use an inappropriate IP address. This means that file transfers and terminal emulation will not function. These guidelines enable you to specify the specific IP address that you want to use for IP access to a Himalaya node. ======================================================================== Details ======================================================================== TOP uses the FTP protocol for performing file transfers and the Telnet protocol for terminal emulation. Both protocols require an IP connection to work correctly. For TOP to establish an IP connection to a Himalaya node, it must know the IP address of the node. When TOP establishes an IP connection to a node, it finds the IP address of the node by examining the TCP/IP subnets on the node where the MIP is running. When a subnet of type ETHERNET is found, the IP address associated with that subnet is used as the IP address of the machine for IP traffic. Some nodes may be configured with more than one subnet of type ETHERNET. In this case, TOP may use the wrong IP address for the host. For file transfers and terminal emulation to function correctly, you must explicitly override the incorrect IP address with the correct IP address. To force TOP to use a specific IP address for file transfers and terminal emulation for a certain node: 1. On the Session menu, point to Options, and then click a node name. 2. Click in Host IP Address, and then specify a numeric IP address. 3. Click OK. END OF SUPPORT NOTE ====================================================
